The Brighton-Tubas Friendship and Solidarity Group aims to make links between Trade Union branches in Brighton and the Tubas region.
We are in regular contact with Brighton and Hove Unison's International Officer and, in 2007, Brighton and Hove Unison voted to affiliate to the Tubas branch of the Palestinian General Federation of Vocational Unions.Brighton and Hove UNISON have made a number of donations to unions in Tubas region. We have met with the Tubas branches of the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions and the General Federation of Vocational Unions on successive delegations to the region and try to relay concerns and ideas back to the trade union movement in the UK as well as the wider Palestine Solidarity Movement.
In 2007 we held a fringe meeting at the UNISON national conference in Brighton where a video link was set up between a variety of trade unionists in Palestine and British trade unionist about to vote on the boycott of Israel. We have a focus on highlighting conditions for workers employed on illegal Israeli settlements by Carmel-Agrexco In the future we would like to take local trade unionists to the Tubas region.
