    Between 20 and 30 armed settlers from the Maskiot settlement, supported by the Israeli army and police from the settlement, yesterday erected a tent flying Israeli flags just 10 metres away from the entrance to the Palestinian Bedouin community of El Maleh and ordered the Bedouin community off the land.

    Members of the Brighton-Tubas Friendship and Solidarity Group (BTFSG) and International Solidarity Movement (ISM) are joining local Palestinians in Hebron who are defending a house under attack by Israeli settlers from Kharsema settlement.

    Today four farmers from Al-Mazra'a Al-Qibliah, Palestine, were attacked by three settler youths whilst attempting to harvest their olives near the Talmon B settlement. The attack was witnessed by members of the Brighton-Tubas Friendship and Solidarity Group. As soon as the farmers reached their groves the three settlers targeted two elderly farmers, punching them and spitting at them. The youths then chased the farmers from their land. Members of the group from Brighton were threatened and one member attempting to film the attack was hit by a settler.

    Eight peace activists from Brighton arrived today in the West Bank village of Al Masra to help the Palestinian villagers harvest their olives and to try to protect them from attack by local Israeli settlers.They will be spending a week in the village accompanying families to their olive groves.

    Five Students from the University if Sussex took part in a visit to a
    Palestinian university to strengthen links between the two universities.

    Sussex University Students Union (USSU) has been twinned with Al Quds Open
    University in Tubas in the West Bank since June 2007. Students from
    Brighton have visited Palestine four times in an attempt to build links
    with Palestinian students and break the isolation of Palestinians living
    under Israeli occupation.

    A delegation of 8 people from Brighton have arrived in the Tubas region of occupied Palestine. Their three week visit is aimed at fostering links between grassroots groups in Brighton and Tubas. Members of the delegation will also visit the threatened village of Al Masra to assist them with their olive harvest.

    In Summer 2007 a small group of activists from Brighton began talking to villagers in Fasayil, a small village in the Israeli occupied Jordan Valley. The villagers said that many of their children could not go to school because Israeli military law prevented them from building one.

    Equipped with footballs, balloons and art materials Brighton students are today visiting two schools in remote Palestinian villages. They will involve the local children in a day of sports and arts activities. They will spend the morning at Al Jiftlik school.
