The Israeli Annexation of the Jordan Valley

The Jordan Valley is part of occupied Palestine. Since 1967 it has been under Israeli military occupation.

The Jordan Valley has always been an important rural backdrop to urban Palestine. The valley is the most fertile region in Palestine for agricultural production.

Since 1967 Israel has annexed large sections of land for the construction of illegal settlements. Has put restrictions on the Palestinian population of the valley and has militarised vast swathes of land isolating the valley from the remainder of the occupied West Bank. Israeli state owned agricultural companies have harvested the stolen Palestinian lands and exploited the local Palestinian population. The current situation amounts to de facto annexation.

In February 2006 Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert confirmed the government’s intention to annex the Jordan Valley and thus cut off any future Palestinian state’s direct links to any neighbouring country.
